KOHAT: The police arrested 68 suspected people, including 14 Afghans living illegally, in an operation in Dhoda and Babri Banda areas here on Thursday.

Officials of Bilitang police accompanied by personnel of elite force and commandos raided several places and rounded up six fugitives and seized two rifles, three shotguns, four pistols and hundreds of cartridges.

The arrested refugees could not produce residential cards and were sent to prison under 14 Foreign Act for deportation to Afghanistan.

The police teams also checked 40 houses and 25 hotels and arrested seven violators of the law binding the owners to inform the police about the tenants.

Meanwhile, deputy inspector general of police, Kohat, Ishtiaq Marwat has said that police have more opportunities than officials of other departments to serve masses.

He was addressing policemen at a ceremony to give awards to the best serving officers at his office here on Thursday.

He gave away prizes to SHO of Kohat city police station Mohammad Iqbal, inspector Nazeer Khan of Cantt station, Omer Hayat of Riaz Shaheed station, inspector Dost Mohammad of Bilia Mina station, SHO of Doaba police station and others.

RELEASE DEMANDED: A large number of people blocked the Kohat-Hangu highway on Thursday, demanding release of the head of Mohammadzai Village Defence Organisation, Haji Gul, who was injured in a clash with security forces and taken into custody.

A couple of days ago Haji Gul and volunteer Sarfraz were injured during a clash with personnel of law enforcement agencies in the disputed mountain with the Bezote tribe of Orakzai Agency.

Mr Gul and his volunteers were allegedly patrolling the area despite ban imposed on the organisation by the administration.

Sources, meanwhile, said that Mr Gul was in KDA hospital for treatment of the wounds he had sustained during the clash.
