Pakistan chief selector Moin Khan, under investigation by the cricket board for visiting a casino in New Zealand, has apologised for his actions but reiterated that he went there just to have dinner, DawnNews reported.
"I apologise if my actions caused any hurt to people in Pakistan. I just went to the casino to have dinner with some friends and nothing else," Moin said.
On Tuesday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) launched an official investigation into reports that Moin had visited a casino shortly before Pakistan's loss to West Indies.
“There are widespread allegations into the conduct of the chief selector having brought the image of Pakistan and PCB into disrepute,” the Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement on Tuesday.
PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan spoke with the chief selector and other members of team management by telephone on Tuesday, before ordering Moin to return home to clarify his position
“He's (Moin) been recalled immediately so that he can explain his position himself, and by which time we will also have a full picture,” Shaharyar said in Lahore.
Shaharyar said Moin acknowledged he went to the casino with his wife, and had dinner with their friend.
“When I told Moin there are lots of allegations against you, and even members of the Upper House discussed it in parliament today, he told me that all the accusations are wrong,” Shaharyar said.
“He was also disappointed. But he told me he went there to have dinner, and didn't do anything else.”
Pakistan has lost its two pool games against India and the West Indies, and next plays on Sunday against Zimbabwe. Just before the start of the World Cup, there were reports that eight Pakistan players were fined for breaching a team curfew.

I live in overseas and all eatery places always situated inside Casino's establishment, so what is the big deal if he visited the casino for Supper/Dinner. Please guys come on be realistic try not to make it difficult for everyone and send wrong impression. Now everyone is taking this out of context. We cannot take burden of all illiterate people. Do your investigation first and then call him back this will bring more disgrace to us as nation and also in front of ICC. Looks like ICC not even interested as they know it is not a big deal.

Immature behavior of Moin when Pakistani players and his past are tented with match fixing allegations and/or punishments to go to Casino for the dinner (God knows if he had some other business and that's also just before the Loss of Pakistan to WI)! It's not PCB's reaction to his visit, its world reaction to his visit to Casino and thats also shortly before Pakistan loss to WI! Are his timings right-no commonsense logic here.
PCB has the full right to esquire Moin on this! Had it been Australia or UK people there would have demanded resignation to tarnish the image of the country and the cricket board!

No doubt it was personal affair.
But a visit to the casino by a senior official of the cricket team with lots of inside information could be very easily associated with illegal betting or benefiting from it. In which case the ICC and the western media may start a floodgate of "investigations".
I don't know if this constitutes a violation of disciplinary rules of PCB ( I doubt if the PCB has any disciplinary clauses in its contracts).
This was an extremely naive and foolish thing to do. I personally do no believe he is that simple.

He should accept that he was eating a non halal food / playing gamble...This is what a casino can offer..... On what basis he is with his family in Australia and also getting allowances ...The only reason is that he is representing Pakistan.I have been living abroad and for last 16 years and never had a problem in getting halal food....These questions are of our concern.

PCB should not try to use This dinner incident and should launch full fledged inquiry into the performance of its own officers that is evident from the performance of the selection and performance of the team.

Khan, a wicketkeeper and a shining batsman, made his international debut against the West Indies in 1990-91, and was associated with the national team for more than 10 years.

It IS a matter of concern.
1- First of all he is chief selector and hence he has got no right or cushion to go with the team on foreign tours.
2- He is traveling at the expense of PCB (not his own), so we surely would mind of his paid family holiday.
3- He held 2 positions illegally (Manager and Selector) and when asked to quit one, he chose to be the chief selector but (out of irregularity) asked for privilege to go with the team which was accepted out of norms.
4- Even if he went to the tour after all those irregularities, he should have controlled his temptations and avoid going to Casino while the team is already playing poor and there are protests back home.
5- Nobody goes to the Casino "just to have dinner". How many of the readers, their friends/family have specially gone to dinner at a Casino?
6- The Sethi/Waqar/Moeen trio have occupied PCB due to political influence, they are good for nothing and public should force them out of office.

Let's take his word and say he went there to have dinner. My question is what did he have for dinner? Did he go to the sports bar they have or the cafe ? As a Muslim individual representing a Muslim country was it important to him to stay away from alcohol and pork meat or any other non-halal food? Please check the menu at the Christchurch Casino and see for yourself as to what he may have had for dinner. Living in the west for the past 35 years even we have to make sure these questions are answered before picking a spot to have dinner with the family. What about having a bit of common sense and thinking that with all the controversies faced by the team and even Moeen Khan himself he would have been a bit more careful.
Bottom line is they are all after some cheap fun at the expense of the country and have no moral footings to represent the country in any capacity.They need to be sacked including the Waqar and replaced with some men of character as you can find many individuals with a bit of character and skills to do the job at hand and that is the organization of Pakistan Cricket.

Lets be clear about one thing, either Moin did the wrong thing or the right thing, he should not be with team at first place so get him back and sort out the rest later, I am pretty sure once he is out of dressing room, these bunch of under performers can do better. @Steak Sauce primary business of casino is gambling everything else is to facilitate it.they were good resturants even famous chefs ,great singers and interesting shows. But it certainly looks bad and may be against team policy. Did he bet on any cricket match? If you are team official you cannot give an impression of impropriety. Especially with a match fixing scandal few years ago.

Why all this Hallaboo..He should have been asked for explanation once PAK returned from rather than adding to list of complaints and insults already incurred or should have been let off with 230$ fine as is PCB norm is. After all Moin, Mushtaq Ahmed and Waqar Younis were part of the elite personnel listed in Justice Qayyum report. They have all been duly awarded by PCB for their extra ordinary contributions during their hay days. What else was to be expected ?

I used to work in Grosvenor house casino in London few years back. Trust me more than 60% of customers were Pakistanis. It does not mean they were all there for gambling. You can always have dinner and sit and watch others play. So get over it and concentrate on the next matches guys.

So much hullabaloo on a dinner at casino??? I see vested interests in blaming admin people rather than players. Families do go to casinos for dinner. As the environment is quite different. And they enjoy it too. There is no big deal. Spare these people and ask players to play well. They are not kids to be taught every time. They are lax, over confident, ill mannered, and it's their nature. So how can an org change nature of well grown Giants. This is what you learn at school or when you are a child. So basically Pakistan's grass root management is wrong. You just teach them hatred, ideologies, impatience, and all negative things. So the product would be what your team is. So leave this blame game and introspect a bit.

On my travels through out the non-muslim world I have been hard pressed to find places that are "Islamic." Most places serve wine, or other alcohol beverages, because that is where the largest margins of profits are. Casinos are well known to have a good food for lower prices than anywhere else. Not everyone goes to a casino to gamble.
In the US the largest ijtima of the Tablighi Jamaat is usually held in Las Vegas. The simple reason is the cost. it is so much more cheaper to hold a huge event in Vegas than at other places. Try New York and you will go bankrupt.

Above is the piece of news that bothers me most. It is not the visit to the casino for dinner but the timing of the visit that bothers me. As an official of the team he should have been more concerned with the match result and performance of the team and stayed there till the match had finished.
I can not imagine of enjoying a dinner in casino if my team ( including whole Pakistan) is going through the agony of a shameful loss. Timing of the dinner should be questioned and clearly shows his weak link with the team.

I lived in Australia almost 10 years and never ever visited casino for dinner. Moin Khan should know that there is no Halal food in Australian casinos and there are very limited restaurants which provide Halal food. Why then he has selected casino - just to eat salad but there is no guarantee that salad is free from the alcohol spreads. Casino in Australia does not make lentil and rice (Dal & chawal) - so that is also not an incentive!!!
He is just making fool of Pakistani public - instead of concentrating on cricket and making a wise decision, he is just wasting the money of PCB. He should give us a logical explanation - why after winning the toss Pakistan decided to bowl first, considering that we have a poor record of chasing the runs. Why Younus Khan is playing after failing again and again. Mr Moin should concentrate on the cricket and not on the casino. It is just sad to say that we have now no pride now and we take an important matches as picnic party. I am now warning that if Pakistan plays the same way as they did in the last two matches, it will be very difficult for them to even beat Zimbabwe or any other team.
Mr Moin should be punished and should not be holding any position in PCB. He has no contribution to show to stay with PCB.

The issue is not that he went to casino with his wife. The issue is about the timing of the visit, the night before the match. The bigger question that need to be asked is that why PCB has paid for his wife to go. No where in the world any company will pay for their employees family to accompany them. Secondly, in what cricket board does a chief selector travels with the team. I realize Moin put that condition in his employment contract but why did PCB agreed to that. If he loved traveling then he should have stayed a manager only but obviously selector gets paid more than the manager.

There is no blame for the poor performance. However, it is against rules to go any casino if anyone associated with any professional game. Pakistani do not have a good track records for fixing the match. In any case, if he is not educated enough to know then it is time for him to go. As chief selector, he is not allowed to mingle with the players as per the PCB policy.
PCB is NOT running on tax payer's money. It is an independent organisation, or at least it is meant to be, but our PM keeps meddling into it.
Also, even when you go on foreign tours on conferences, you are not tied up 24 by 7. You are allowed leisure time outside, and you can spend it however you want, so far you do not violate the local law.

For the sake of argument if we say there is nothing wrong in going to a casino, but how could Moin Khan thought of going out with his wife and friends to have dinner soon after Pakistan lost the match against the west indies. That was no time for celebration, and casino is not the only place where food is available. In fact, if i was him i wouldn't have felt hungry, because of the team's poor performance. But most of our players are characterless, they want to party all the time. Kick him out!!!!!!!!!!!

In about 99.99% casinos of the world, there is only served beer and wine or other alchoholic or non-alcoholic (like apfel-shorle or cola). I have never seen a casino where you get the dinner as well. So his claim is totally false. I just wonder why he is telling alie. If he went to casino he can just say he went to make fun or enjoy his holiday. And that's it! any why is PCB targeting only him of all the bad performance of the team.

Just before the match, they send the team in 11 supersonic drones, one for each and flown directly to the pitch. That is how you win matches, and not by having dinner at casinos. A casino of all places? Moin, Waqar, Mushtaq, all of them have a shady past associated with match-fixing. Once you have been involved in such deeds, then you have to be very careful about such things.
A casino is associated with betting, just like the Pakistan team is - what an irony that Moin chose to go there when he's representing Pakistan at the WC.
Pakistan's performance is also so poor and some of the reasons are so mind-boggling, that one cannot help but be suspisions of underhand activities. Dropping of Fawad, not playing Sarfaraz are just some of the few.
Moin should be taken to task. Period.

Current and Past PCB officials should be tried in the military courts. They have destroyed cricket infrastructure & our players credibility. In Islam there is no forgiveness for crime/theft against society. All the money is pocketed by PCB officials, nothing is spent in infrastructure & player developments. Players are forced to under perform. Basically PCB officials work for Bookies in India and Pakistan and the team is forced to follow what the bookies want. Also all mentioned in Justice Qayyums report should be punished. All assets & accounts of the corrupt officials and players should be seized.

No issue with him going to Casino, but, I have heard two different reasons given by Moin. One is listed here in this article about eating food, the initial reason given as reported by the media was that Moin went to check if any players had left their hotel rooms for the casino. One thing is sure that there cant be two reasons. So Moin has to make up his mind what was the real reason. In addition to that, Moin is a chief selector, hence its not his job to check on players.

Moin Khan is not punished for his visit to the casino but the people in Pakistan blame him for picking such a bad side for the WC. One all-rounder is missing from the initial 15 selected. The replacements sent was mind boggling - the team management lost two great opportunity to get some experienced and in-form players.
Not selecting a regular wicket-keeper who is in prime form is criminal plus how do you drop a spinner against WI who are known to be weak against spin. I don't think the tour selection committee don't know the game so the defensive approach of the captain is apparant.
