KARACHI: A mosque pesh imam was killed on Friday at Safoora Chowk next to Johar Complex.

According to a spokesperson of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), the man identified as Yaseen was an ASWJ leader. ASWJ is the reincarnation of Sipah-i-Sahaba, which is a Sunni sectarian group responsible for carrying out terrorist activities against Shias in Pakistan.

A police investigation regarding the nature of the murder is under way.

Previously this month, a young man, said to be a sympathiser of the ASWJ, was found shot dead in Orangi Town.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Later, the body was identified as that of Abdul Raheem aka Guddu, 25. He was a rickshaw driver.

Iqbal Market SHO Abdul Majeed Marwat said that the police were yet to ascertain the motive for the killing.

However, an ASWJ spokesperson said that Abdul Raheem was kidnapped, tortured and shot dead.

Two young men belonging to the ASWJ were shot dead in a suspected ‘sectarian’ attack on the main National Highway near Malir Halt earlier this month, the airport police said.

The deceased were identified as 28-year-old Naseem Khan and 24-year-old Mohammed Asif, residents of Mujahid Colony in Nazimabad.

The police had also recovered a diary containing name of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat, said Malir SP Rao Anwar.

Two Qatar Hospital employees shot dead in Orangi Town

In another incident on Friday, two employees of Qatar Hospital Saleem Akbar and Ali Haider Rizvi were shot dead in Orangi Town, while they were returning home from their duties.

The firing took place at Ghausia Chowk in Orangi Town number 10. Police is investigating the firing incident and there are possibilities of this attack being a result of sectarian violence.

The dead bodies have been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
