GUJRAT: PPP Gujrat President Ms Sameena Pagganwala has complained about “interference” of Kaira family in the party’s organisational matters in the district in her recent meeting with co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari at Islamabad, where her husband Fakhar was also present.

Ms Pagganwala had been made the PPP’s Gujrat district president around four months ago, replacing Tahir Zaman Kaira, the elder brother of party stalwart Qamar Zaman Kaira.

Since she took over the office, Pagganwalas and the Kairas are having differences over the party’s organisational matters, sources say.

The sources quoted Ms Pagganwala as telling Mr Zardari that though Kairas belonged to Kharian tehsil that also included their constituencies, they were more interested in PPP Gujrat tehsil’s reorganisation, which was creating problems for her.

She told the party co-chairperson that three other influential groups in local politics, respectively, led by Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Nawabzada Ghazanfar Ali Gull and the Pagganwalas were on the same page with regard to the party reorganisation in their respective constituencies.

The sources said Kairas wanted party’s Lalamusa city chapter president’s slot for a friend from Oslo, Norway, while the district head desired to give the position to some party worker.

According to the sources, after giving a sympathetic hearing to Ms Pagganwala, Mr Zardari made a telephone call to Tanveer Ashraf Kaira and directed him to address the complaints of the district president by holding a meeting with her.
