KOHAT: Commissioner, Kohat division, Jamaluddin Shah has asked young artists for organising a joint event here on March 23 for showing their talent and boosting the courage and confidence of local students because they have not yet recovered from the trauma caused by the Peshawar school tragedy.

He was talking to the members of Kohat Artists Union who called on him at his office on Friday for demanding fund for the organisation of a theatre for its projection and tapping the hidden talent of Kohat district.

The union president, Basit Ali Shah, apprised the commissioner of their activities and problems, especially funds shortage. He said that compared to other districts Kohat lacked modern health, social and educational facilities because in the past no effort had been made to bring out the best among the people.

He said that Kohat, which had produced poets like Faraz Ahmed Faraz and Ayub Sabir, was teaming with raw talent dying to show its capabilities.

He said that recently a young female student of Kohat University of Science and Technology grabbed a position among the top 10 in the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Festival by presenting a peace song. It was appreciated by the participants from 44 countries, but the event went unnoticed in the country.

Call on Kohat commissioner

The commissioner in response eulogised the talent of Maryam Hussain for earning fame for the country and Kohat. He promised to provide funds and all necessary facilities if the union organised a joint function for observing March 23 for encouragement of the school children.

Mr Basit agreed to invite the government and private schools children and arrange quiz and speech competitions for highlighting the courage of the founding leaders of the country. Members of the artists union present at the meeting included Maryam Hussain, Zeeshan Nawaz, Saba Faiz, Zobia Shah, Sajjad Mehmood, Saima Khalid, Shafqat Nigar, Tariq Mehmood and others.
