KOHAT: The police on Saturday foiled a drug smuggling bid and arrested two members of an inter-provincial gang at Kaghazai checkpost here, sources said.

They said that cantonment police had established a checkpost at Kaghazai on Kohat-Hangu highway for checking of suspicious vehicles coming to Kohat from tribal areas.

During search of a Suzuki van coming from Pera area of Orakzai Agency the police team recovered seven kilograms of fine quality hashish from the possession of two persons identified as Awan Ali and Azeem Ali.

They were arrested and shifted to the cantonment police station where they admitted during preliminary investigations that they wanted to smuggle out hashish via Kohat into Punjab. They said that hashish fetched hundreds of thousands of rupees if sold in Kohat but its price doubled in Punjab.

The police have registered a case against the smugglers under the Drug Control Act and launched further investigations.
