RAWALPINDI, Dec 22: A local human rights organization has expressed concern over the government’s failure to provide warm beds to prisoners during the current cold wave.
“At a time when the cold weather is at its peak, prisoners have been provided only two thin sheets to cover themselves while the doorways are covered with tarpaulin,” Human Rights Observer chairman Ulfat Kazmi said while demanding warm blankets for prisoners.
During visits to various jails, Mr Kazmi said he had found that prisoners were facing problems due to improper heating arrangements.
He said he had been told that nobody, but the inspector general (jails), could allow prisoners to have warm blankets. It is a great injustice with prisoners, he observed.
The human rights worker demanded that prisoners should be looked after properly so that they might become better citizens.
