Riaz, Watson charged by ICC for Code of Conduct violation

The International Cricket Council (ICC) charged Wahab Riaz and Shane Watson on Friday for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Pakistan vs. Australia quarter-final, which the Australian team won.
According to DawnNews, if players admit their wrongdoing, they are generally let off with a warning. But it is uncertain what kind of action will be taken against the two cricketers.
The ICC will announce on Saturday what ─ if any ─ action will be taken against them for the violation.

Riaz, during an aggressive bowling spell, peppered Watson with a series of short-pitched deliveries and sarcastically applauded, even blowing the 33-year-old a kiss at one stage.
There was also an exchange of words between the two players.

Riaz told SkySports earlier: “We watched how the Australia guys play and had a chat before the game and put plans in place. I knew Watson was not so good with short balls so I knew I had to attack. The plans were successful at times but unfortunately we could not win the game.”
Following the match, Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq hailed the fiery Riaz's performance.

“He bowled his heart out and was a different kind of bowler throughout this tournament. I have never seen a bowler bowling like that and if that catch had been taken who knows what could have happened?”
Watson would have been caught out during Riaz's bowling spell, had Rahat Ali been able to hold on to the ball at deep-square leg.

Come on ICC. Watson didn't complain - Wahab didn't either. What's your problem? You should first charge your president Mustafa Kamal who brought to game into disrepute by alleging that Quarter Final was 'pre-arranged' perhaps just to win some brownie points and sensational headlines in the Bangladeshi media.

Wahab has my respect - even Watson admitted in his interview that he was v lucky tonight.
Clark said - it was one of the most furious attack in all forms of the game.
At the end - tonight Australia didn't win , Pakistan lost. Catches win matches, n Pakistan dropped two dollies.
Congrats Australia. We will come back stronger with super glue on our hands :)

Wahab Riaz this guy played his heart out. Stupid fielders messed it up. Wonderful exhibition of fast, rather extreme hostile fast bowling. Quality pace would kill any batters. The theory that Aussies play short ball is sheer rubbish. All batsmen struggle against GOOD short pitched stuff.

ICC needs to chill out. It was a competitive game. There was no swearing between the players. The bowler and the batsman were trying to get under the skin of each other but in a competitive manner.

@Waqar Jan Australia NZ deserve world cup much more than other team .So I don't think results are otherwise.Pakistan ODI batting might improve with better batsman at top of order and middle order.It's likely look Sarfraz Ahmed might be we looking towards in future in life after Misbah.Bowling quarter is fine and Amir is going to provide much needed edge which already looking polished enough.

ICC is over reacting. It was nothing so serious that it needs to be censored. The reactions were in fitness of the things and situation. Must say Wahab Riaz bowled superb. Full credit to him and the guy was pure unlucky to have not picked more wickets. And credit also to Watson for hanging in facing some extremely hostile bowling spell. Good cricket all around.

wahab respect. i am from india, and always admired some the fast bowlers from pakistan, the only place in south east asia where u get genuine fast bowlers, who can forget wasim a true gentle man off the field and an aggressive self on.
must say throughly enjoyed wahabs bowling, an asian giving it back to the aussie and left them shivering in their boots. such a dissapointment that u guys can't support this brave heart by holding on the simplest of chances offered. anyways would tune in to watch wahab whereever he plays. thanks again.

Pakistan has the best talent of all countries, it's a nation apart, but let down very badly by Management politics. Riaz performance was a delight to see. He and Watson shook hands after the game on the pitch.
The catch drops showed poor practice and technique, not concentrating and withstanding the pressure.

The verbal exchange was all in good fun and was very much needed for this kind of game. No one got hurt and both the players embraced each other at the end of the game. Both showed respect while the heat was on.

I remember seeing Johnson saying something to Wahab and Wahab goes on to complaint to the umpire. The umpire just asks the players to keep playing and asks them to just keep quiet. If Wahab did the same thing as Johnson, why is Wahab being charged? Aussies deserve this aggression. They take the sub continent teams for granted.

This clearly shows that ICC personnel were not watching the match. It should be Starc first and then Wahab. I think Watson showed really good sportman spirit and didn't react. It all ended up nicely so ICC really don't need to overreact here.

When I see PK players practice they are casual, laughing, relaxed, sitting on the grass but when I see world class teams like AUS, NZ and even India they have intense sessions like military drills. You miss a catch you do 100 pushups and 10 laps. PK has forever been lousy fielders, 1-2 misplays changes a game completely. `its like having Virat, Watson or De Villers bat twice. Killers absolute killers. PK has to take cricketing more seriously and professionally. Teams like SA steal your wickets with diving catches, PK gives wickets by dropping catches.

This kind of incidents do happen in important games and it should not be taken that seriously. Charging the players for violating the code of conduct by ICC is not fair. This is nothing but an easy way of making money similar to that of the Police Department in a Third World Country for minor Traffic Violations. Players do exchange harsh words on the field but they are always friendly with each other once the incidence is over. Will the ICC prove what improvement they have achieved in the behavior of the players by imposing such penalties?

Well on-field umpires should have stepped in. If the umpires can't control the game then what is the point of them being in there. They should be able to warn the players and on second offense should be able to kick them out. It all started when Starc started chatting and mocking wahab. That got wahab fired up, but on the positive side saw one of the best fast balling spell on Adelaide batting wicket. Way to go wahab!!! All is not lost last night.

back in the days, a player would let his bowl or bat talk, now they just taunt each other trying to get a false reaction. sure wahab had a good spell going for him but taking on batsman like that, well not very professional I must say.
It will also be interesting to see how Indians behave during the semis. Good luck to India though, last Asians in the game.

everyone likes afiridi - i dont know why. Afridi has been such a failure for so many years. never scores runs when needed, never cared about the country's situation in a game and have a controlled managed innings. Always blind hittin.g if we had some good sensible batsmen - we would have given more time for bowlers to defend it. i feel sad for Wahab. What a waste of talent ..

Wahab, what a bowler and what a spell. Never seen anything like that in my life. Never seen such spell from Imran, Waqar, Akram, sarfraj during their era. Wish the fielding was better to support such top notch and fiery effort from Wahab. Simply spectacular spell. Wahab has become new "Fawad Khan" of Pakistan Cricket. I consider myself lucky to have witnessed such missiles thrown by Wahab which blew away terrified Aussies. Can anyone help me in getting the clip of Wahab spell ( since Star sports already banned it on you tube due to copyright issues). Let me know friends. Milan

I am from India and I do not find Wahab Riaz behaviour offensive or out of spirit of the game.
Mitchell Starc should have been punished. He played his heart out and play to win.

I think cricket fans who were entertained by some of the best fast bowling in recent memory should pitch in to pay the fine at least on behalf of Wahab if not both. What a spell. Let the ball do the talking. His gestures were harmless and in any case was retaliating to being provoked. As an Indian I thoroughly enjoyed Wahab giving it back. Way to go!

The best and consistent attacking bowling I have ever seen.
Gentlemen game should be played by gentlemen, but as it is not for some time.
As the Australians are no gentemen, then one as to give them the same dose that they give the others. Anway there was nothing much in it.

Aussies can sledge players to no limit, ICC wont say a word. It is as though they're the only ones born with the right to sledge. When other teams do it, ICC comes to their rescue
