BAHAWALPUR: The country’s first-ever Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park is expected to start generating electricity soon.
During a visit to the park, Dawn has been informed that park’s first unit will produce 100 megawatt (MW) energy and work for its connectivity with the national grid is also in progress.
The installation of about 0.4 million solar panels in an area of 500 acres for the first unit of 100MW electricity (phase-I) out of the park’s total capacity of 1,000MW energy generation has been completed. This is being carried out in pursuance of the instructions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
It merits mentioning that the project is being established with Chinese assistance. The park spreading over an area of 10,000 acres falls in the jurisdiction of Cholistan desert.
It is under the administrative control of Cholistan Development Authority (CDA), which has already transferred the land to Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park.
Talking to this correspondent, Director Security Lt-Col Muhammad Hassan says an effective security network has been established around the park. “The law-enforcement personnel are keeping a round-the-clock vigil.”
