KOHAT: A man and his nephew were killed allegedly by their rival in Ustazari police station limits here on Monday.

A police official said that suspect, Azhar Abbas, shot dead Syed Imam Ali and his nephew, Syed Naib Hussain, over unknown reasons.

The official said that the suspected murderer tried to escape the area, but police arrested him after an exchange of fire which lasted for about four hours as the culprit was armed with a Kalashnikov.

TWO SUSPECTED TERRORISTS HELD: The Kohat police on Monday arrested two suspected terrorists in Marai area.

Ustarzrai police after receiving information that a suspected terrorist was hiding in Marai area, raided a house and arrested the suspect identified as Syed Ameen Hussain, who was preparing a bomb.

On his disclosure, an accomplice of him was also held from the nearby mountains.

The police seized the bomb which contained high explosives, nails, sharp iron pieces and two detonators, and called the bomb disposal squad personnel who safely defused the explosives.

The police booked both the militants under terrorism act, who would be presented before an anti-terrorism court today (Tuesday) for obtaining their physical remand.

WORK ON DAM BEGINS: Adviser to the chief minister on sports and archives Amjid Afridi inaugurated work on Garang mini dam in Gumbat area on Monday.

The dam is part of a Rs250 million ‘harvesting scheme’ approved for Kohat division.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Afridi said the dam would benefit small farmers and bring prosperity to the far off areas located close to the River Indus.

He stated that Rs5 million had been allocated for carpeting of the Gumbat road. He said that there would be no discrimination while approving development programmes for any constituency.

The PTI lawmaker also announced dissolution of all district and tehsil level organisations of PTI in Kohat, and asked the aspirants for the upcoming local bodies polls to collect party tickets from MPAs of their respective constituencies.

Meanwhile, when contacted Kohat executive engineer Nawab Ali told Dawn that the Garang dam’s estimated cost was Rs6.3 million and the project would be completed in one and a half year.

He said the project was part of the Annual Development Programme, 2014-15. It was also reflected in the 2015-16 provincial budget, he added.
