RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Wednesday asked the National Logistics Cell (NLC) to speed up the reconstruction of Murree Road and the bus stations.

Metro Bus Project Director Zahid Saeed and Metro Bus Project Implementation Committee Chairman Hanif Abbasi inspected the ongoing work from Committee Chowk to 6th Road.

A senior official of the RDA told Dawn that a NLC official on the occasion promised to mobilise more workforce to complete the work within the stipulated time. He said the NLC was of the view that the work on the reconstruction of the Murree Road would start after the ongoing rainspell. The NLC would first complete the reconstruction of the Chandni Chowk bus station which was smaller compared to the other 14 bus stations. He said the NLC would later divert all the labour force to the other bus stations, including Committee Chowk, Waris Khan, Rehmanabad and 6th Road, on which 50 per cent work was already complete.

When contacted, Zahid Saeed said the recent spell of rains had affected the work on the reconstruction of the Murree Road. He said the RDA had asked all the contractors to complete the work within the stipulated time. He said the SNGPL and Wasa would complete the laying of pipelines of natural gas and water on April 2, adding Iesco completed the work on the underground electricity supply lines from Marrir Chowk to 6th Road.
