TAXILA: Pakistan Air Force clinched the 38th National Kabaddi Championship beating Wapda in a thrilling final at the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Sports Complex on Thursday.
The match started on a fast tempo with both Wapda and PAF offering each other resistance right from the outset. However, after a furious battle the PAF was finally able to beat Wapda with score being 49-39.
Before the start of the match, both teams were introduced to the chief guest POF chief Lt-General Mohammad Ahsan Mahmood who at the end of the final also distributed prizes among players.
Having congratulated the winning team, the POF chief said that the youth could benefit from sports facilities available at the POF.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) secretary general Mohammad Sarwar thanked the POF Sports Control Board for making best arrangement for holding the national event.
Dawn has learnt that earlier the PKF wanted to hold an international event instead of the current one as they had invited India, Afghanistan and Iran for the showpiece event but participation of international teams could not be ensured due to clearance problems.
In his welcoming remarks, vice-president POF Sports Control Board retired Col Inamullah Khan said that POF Sports Control Board under the guidance of chairman POF Board held numerous sports competitions and it had been immense desire of the POF chairman that healthy environment is provided to POF employees and their children.
