QUETTA: Security forces claimed on Friday to have killed a man suspected to be involved in the 2013 attack on the Quaid-i-Azam Residency in Ziarat. He was killed in a clash with security personnel during a search operation in Mach town of Bolan district.

Mehmood alias Mama was wanted by the authorities in the Ziarat Residency attack case, a spokesman for Frontier Corps Balochistan said in a statement.

He said two other men were also killed in the clash which took place in a mountainous area.

Sources said that FC personnel had launched a search operation in Mach for criminals involved in kidnapping of ransom, extortion and attacks on security forces and passenger trains. When they tried to search a house, Mehmood and his two associates opened fire. Security personnel returned fire and the exchange of fire continued for some time.

The FC spokesman said that the troops seized arms and ammunition which were being used by the three men.

Meanwhile, the Frontier Corps also carried out search operations in Dera Murad Jamali, Panjgur and Mir Ali Khail.

According to official sources, a suspected militant of a banned organisation was arrested during a raid on a place on the outskirts of Panjgur and arms and ammunition were seized.

In Dera Murad Jamali, a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including 22 SMGs, two G-3 rifles and 10 of other types, one rocket launcher, seven rockets and thousands of rounds were found.

The spokesman said FC personnel also seized arms and ammunition during a raid on a place in Mir Ali Khail town of Zhob district. The seized items included six automatic weapons, several hundred rounds, three pistols and a motorcycle.

However, no arrest was made in the raids.
