LANDI KOTAL: An alleged kidnapper was killed and his accomplice injured in a shootout with Khasadar personnel in Jamrud on Saturday.

Khasadar officials said that two armed men belonging to Qambarkhel tribe of Bara tried to kidnap a resident of Jamrud near the local bazaar. They said that when Khasadar officials reached the spot the two gunmen opened fire on them.

They said that in retaliatory fire one of the kidnappers was killed and another critically injured who was taken into custody.

The Khasadar personnel later conducted a search operation in the locality, but no one was arrested.

DRUGS DESTROYED: The Khasadar force on Saturday burnt over 400 kilogrammes of heroin and charas seized during last week at various checkposts on Peshawar-Torkham road.

Officials claimed that the contraband included 294 kgs of heroin and 127 kgs of charas which were seized at Karakhno Market and Takhta Beg checkposts from vehicles coming from Afghanistan via Torkham border.

Meanwhile, Fata Olympics Association secretary Shahid Khan Shinwari inaugurated a hostel for tribal sportsmen adjacent to the Sports Complex in Jamrud the other day. Constructed at a cost of Rs8.5 million the hostel will accommodate at least 24 players at a time along with their officials. The building also provides for indoor sporting activities.

Speaking on the occasion, the association secretary said that the construction of the hostel was a longstanding demand of the Fata players as they had no living facility in any part of tribal area when they would gather for a sporting event.

Mr Shinwari said that promotion of sports in Fata was essential to effectively fight the menace of terrorism and get the local youth involved in healthy activities.
