Make way for the lady in black for she's now heading to India: Burka Avenger, the Emmy nominated animated show is set to launch on Zee Network this month.
The show has been dubbed in four languages, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English for an Indian audience.
Speaking about Burka Avenger, Deputy Business Head of ZeeQ, Aparna Bhosle said in a statement: “Burka Avenger is an amazing show; both in terms of quality of animation as well as storytelling. We are always on the lookout for shows with themes that are relevant to Indian children and we are very fortunate that we have this show.
Each episode has a positive message with fun, action and comedy so that it does not come across as preachy. Burka Avenger has won many prestigious awards worldwide and it will be our honor to showcase it in India.”
The show which is about three children in an imaginary city of Halwapur follows their adventure as they fight off the evil henchmen under Baba Bandook with the help of Jiya, who is a teacher by day and a ninja vigilante by night.
The show projects message of gender equality as well as importance of education for all.
The man behind the show Haroon said: “I am very excited to have Burka Avenger launch in India. The fact that Burka Avenger is being dubbed into a variety of Indian languages is a testament to the high production quality and great story telling of the show."
"We are rolling out a worldwide launch for the Burka Avenger series this year so it is fantastic that one of the first territories is India where we are able to reach such a large audience. Bollywood movies and Indian music are loved here in Pakistan so it is wonderful to have our Pakistani produced series being appreciated in India,” he added.
Burka Avenger was not only nominated for an Emmy but has won the Peabody Award, International Gender Equity Prize at Prix Jeunesse, Munich, Best TV Show at Asian Media Awards, Rising Star Award at Canada International Film Festival and was named one of the most "Influential Fictional Characters of 2013” by Time magazine.

So nice ! Why haven't you guys showcased it before? The best part is, it maybe the first time in history that the burqa would symbolise women empowerment instead of oppression. Kudos to the makers of the series for this remarkable idea. Its like a desi ninja look :) very cool. Disney should learn, always making films about goodie two shoes waiting for prince charming to save her. Now this is how you empower & the best part is, kids are the target audience , so they will learn to stand up for education & liberty from the very begining. I saw on wikipedia about someone making a fuss about the character wearing a burqa! I mean this is non sense. If a girl chooses to wear a burqa or wear a hijab, doesn't necessarily means she's oppressed. Its her choice. I think the burqa gives the character an extra dimension. First muslim super heroine, I think. This is great. Muslim girls & others as well need a role model like this character. Keep doing the good work!

We don't need these conservative old age culture BURKA or anything promoting these things. Still being muslim I don't support BURKA. We are in 21st century. Wemen should get freedom equally as men. In my family I don't allow BURKA by taking consent of my family

A very good enterprise for children. I watch it with my grandchildren and enjoy it with them.
World-wide marketing and translations require careful legal caveats to protect the rights of the producers and creators. Most importantly it should ensure that the purity of the message and the characters is not distorted by opportunists.
I remember Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's qawalli's blatant and vulgar distortion in "TOO CHEEZ HAI MA'ST MA'ST. Perhaps this happened because it was not "rights protected".

It makes sense to dub it in Tamil. But most Telugu speakers understand Hindi/Urdu much like Bengali and Marathi and Punjabi speakers.

Yes but there are more Tamil speaking Muslims compared to Marathi or Bengali Muslims in India and probably those are the target market. Plus most Marathi people (as well as Gujarati) people understand Hindi fairly well and hence the extra cost of dubbing maynot be justified. Even when dubbed version of Hindi movies are made e.g. Ra-One it is usually in Telugu and Tamil.

@Kasmiri "Telegu" does not need a correct spelling in another language - a foreign language can term another foreign language as it pleases. :)
E.g In "Deutscheland they speak Deutch". But in english countries same is said as "In Germany they speak German". Do you see that as an error? If so you can correct your error detection problem. :).. just saying.

Loved it.
Learned some good Urdu too in the process as subtitles are provided.
Hope to watch more episodes.
Good clean entertainment.
Reminds me of Batman/ Superman comics in the sixties.

Everything else fine, just need to change the name in India -- probably to something like - Ninja Warrior, because that is what the character is all about, someone who becomes a 'Ninja' at night. For those who don't know -- a character male or female who fights in the darkness of the night with having just eyes as uncovered is popularly called by the term 'Ninja', quite famous in countries like Japan.

@punjabi, You are wrong. Telugu speaking people are spread worldwide apart from the two states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Telugu is called " Italian of the East ". Most of the Carnatic music, Classical Indian music, kritis are written and composed in Telugu only and dedicatedly sung by all South Indians. There are about 1.5 million Telugu speaking people in America alone not to speak of those settled in Canada, U.K, Australia, New Zealand, Mauritius, Singapore, Malaysia and many other countries.

This is not the only cartoon made in Pakistan, mashallah Pakistan had animation and graphic designers who have made cartoons before.
Their was a Pakistani cartoon named "SafeGuard" which was made to create awareness amongst the children in Pakistan about importance of using soap while washing hands.
Recently Pakistanis have made an animated movie called "3 Bahadur".
