QUETTA: The coordinator of provincial health department, Dr Amir Bakhsh, was kidnapped by armed men from Sariab Road area on Wednesday.

Police said that Dr Bakhsh was going to the health directorate from his home when gunmen intercepted him at the Sariab Road crossing. He was pushed into a pick-up which sped to an unknown destination.

Police registered a case and began investigation.

Meanwhile, the president of Pakistan Medical Association, Dr Aziz Lehri, and other PMA leaders condemned the incident and gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the government to recover Dr Bakhsh.

They warned that if Dr Bakhsh was not found within 24 hours then doctors, nurses and paramedical staff across the province would observe a strike.

“OPDs will be closed and doctors and other health department staff would boycott the ongoing anti-polio and anti-measles campaign in the province,” the PMA warned.
