BAHAWALPUR: An 18-year-old girl suffered serious burns in an alleged acid attack in Basti Raidan on Monday.
According to police, suspect Anwar wanted to marry Shahnaz and sent a proposal to her family which was turned down by the girl. This annoyed Anwar and he threw acid on her. She suffered burns and was rushed to Bahawal Victoria Hospital where her condition was stated to be serious.
The Cantonment police have arrested Anwar.
LAPTOPS: Minister of State for Education Baleeghur Rehman distributed laptops among Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) students under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.
The minister gave away 40 laptops to the students of various departments and campuses of the IUB. Later on, in the first and second phases of the distribution, 618 and 1,618 laptops would be given away, respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that during the second part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, fee reimbursement scheme for the students of underdeveloped areas of Balochistan, Sindh, Fata and south Punjab would be introduced. He enlisted youth’s welfare, law and order, energy and economic development as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s top priorities.
The minister also referred to the Higher Education Commission’s budget which, he said, would increase up to Rs70bn during the current year.
IUB VC Qaiser Mushtaq also addressed.
SENTENCE: The drug court sentenced a man to five-year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs50,000 for supplying fake and spurious drugs to medical stores.
A complaint against the convict, Muhammad Amin of Khanpur, was lodged with Khanpur police by the chemists.
