GHOTKI: A woman — who sustained burn injuries last month while trying to protect her daughter from being burnt alive — succumbed to her injures on Monday night at Karachi's Civil Hospital.

The woman's 12-year-old daughter was raped and burned alive in Ghotki's Daharki district last month.

The victim's relative Ali Hassan Solangi confirmed that the woman died last night. He said doctors at Civil Hospital had asked him to take her back home as her chances of survival were very low.

Solangi expressed dissatisfaction over the victim's treatment at the hospital, and alleged that doctors did not provide proper care.

Speaking to media representatives, Chief of the Solangi community Shabir Ahmed Solangi said that a protest will be held with the woman's body to exert pressure on law enforcement personnel to arrest the culprits.

After regaining consciousness, the woman had recorded a statement last month before Daharki's magistrate Attaullah under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, alleging that she too was raped.

The police failed to arrested the culprits Noor Hassan, Gul Hassan and Hashim Mochi despite the fact that a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against them last month.

The victim and her mother stitched and sold sheets for a living and were pursued by the men under the pretense of wanting to purchase their products. The girl was drugged after being offered tea and was allegedly set on fire by the three men after being raped, the victim's 40-year-old mother had previously told DawnNews after regaining consciousness.

The Ghotki sessions court had ordered the police to lodge an FIR over the incident.

Following the order, FIR No. 7/2015 was registered at Khenju police station against three accused persons under Sections 302, 324, 376, 511 and 437 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
