KARACHI: Two Pakistani cueists of the trio now competing in the 31st Asian Snooker Championship at Kuala Lumpur — Mohammad Asif and Hamza Akbar — were through to the last 32-round by completing their league engagements on Sunday.
Drawn into group “F,” former world amateur snooker champion Asif humbled Thailand’s Boonyarit Kaettikun straight 4-0 in the best of seven frames to notch up third win in four games with the scores being 101-35, 72-16, 78-14, 79-61.
Similarly, national champion Hamza, who is placed in group “B”, followed suit when he blanked Qatar’s Ahmed Saif 65-21, 73-62, 129-1,54-46 to register third win in four outings.
Islamabad-based Shahram, the losing finalist of this year’s national championship, conceded a frame while emerging 4-1 victorious against South Korea’s Chol Ho Hwang. This was former’s second triumph in three games. Shahram, who plays his last league match on Monday, won the duel 61-10, 30-48, 80-0, 73-50, 112-2.
