KARACHI: A book on the 1977-78 journalists movement written by veteran journalist Ahfaz-ur-Rahman has been published and will be launched soon, according to a statement issued on Monday.
“Based on personal insights and experience, the book reveals many aspects that have been hitherto undisclosed,” it said. “It unveils the draconian laws against the press during the military dictator General Zia-ul-Haq and resistance against them in three stages by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and the All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (Apnec).”
The author is a seasoned journalist and has been PFUJ president. During the 1977-78 movement, he was the general secretary of the joint action committee of the PFUJ and Apnec and the secretary of Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ).
“The book comprises two parts. The first part is based on personal experiences and memoirs of the author; the second part comprises articles, letters and poems regarding the movement,” added the statement.
