Sania Maskatiya nominated for International Woolmark Prize twice in a row

One of the leading ladies of the fashion front Sania Maskatiya has once again been nominated the prestigious International Woolmark Prize [IWP] in the India and Middle East nominees for the year 2015/2016.

While the designer was also nominated last year as well, another name, Misha Lakhani for womenswear and Republic for menswear have also been nominated this year.

Commencing in 1953, the yearly awards are an initiative of International Wool Secretariat and honours designers from across the globe for their services to the fashion industry. Famous recipients of the awards include Karl Lagerfield and Yves Saint Laurent.

Other nominees for womenswear include: AKAARO, India, Nachiket Barve, India Taller Marmo, UAE, Bleach, UAE, Misha Lakhani, Pakistan, Bashar Assaf, Lebanon and Mira Hayek, Lebanon. Menswear nominees include Suket Dhir, India and Thamanyah, UAE.

On the brands nomination for the IWP, Chief Executive Officer and partner at Sania Maskatiya, Umair Tabani stated: “IWP has become among the most coveted designer awards of our time. We were first put forward for nomination by the Pakistan Fashion Design Council in 2014/15 owing to our credentials and our dedicated focus on fabric and print."

“The experience and exposure of being nominated was phenomenal. We are delighted to be able to represent Pakistan and its fashion design at this global platform for a second year now,” he added.

Popular designer Feeha Jamshed has also been nominated for the same prize earlier in 2013.

India & Middle East regional award will be held on July 22 in Dubai.
