LAHORE: The Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Council held a dance show at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall, on Wednesday in connection with the International Dance Day. The show was a tribute to classical dancer Nighat Chaudhry.

A number of enthusiasts of all dance genres gathered at the show to celebrate the day. The hall was packed to capacity as several guests and members of the media could not find seats.

Performances by the National Performing Arts Group (NPAG) of PNCA and students of the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore Grammar School and Nighat Chaudhry herself made the occasion a memorable one.

An amalgamation of classical, contemporary and folk dances gave a good insight into various dance genres. The NCA students performed a medley, titled Adam and Eve, which was highly appreciated by the audience. The PNCA students came up with a performance under the title Sub Rang, a fusion of classical, folk and rock.

A major portion of the show was consumed by a group from NPAG, consisting four female and eight male dancers. They gave some nine performances that made a rainbow of all forms of dances such as classical, folk, contemporary and oriental and a few segments of pure western dances.

The International Dance Day was first celebrated in 1982 by the International Dance Council, a Unesco partner NGO, and it is celebrated every year on April 29. It is also the day when the French dancer and ballet master, Jean-Georges Noverre, was born..
