KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali transferred on Thursday night Malir-SSP Rao Anwar, according to a police spokesperson, hours after the officer described the Muttahida Qaumi Movement as an ‘anti-state’ organisation and urged the federal government to ban it.
The IG said Rao Anwar was transferred from Malir because he had misused his authority. The SSP was directed to report to the Central Police Office.
The spokesperson said the transfer order came after Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah had taken serious notice of Rao Anwar’s press conference.
The chief minister asked the IG to hold an inquiry into the matter and submit a report in 24 hours. According
to the spokesperson, Mr Shah, who also looks after the home ministry, had particularly taken notice of the serious allegations levelled by the SSP against the MQM and its leadership.
