KARACHI: The sweltering heat baked the city on Friday as the mercury in the metropolis touched the mark of 43 degrees Celsius forcing Karachiites to remain mostly indoors throughout the day.
Speaking to Dawn, a meteorological department official said that the provincial capital, located along the Arabian Sea coast, which otherwise remains relatively pleasant with the temperature remaining moderate throughout the year, experienced the sizzling weather conditions and similar weather was expected on Saturday.
The minimum temperature recorded in Karachi was 25 degrees Celsius and humidity was 10 per cent, said the official adding that on Saturday the maximum temperature was expected to remain between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius.
The met official said that hot continental air was prevailing over the most parts of the province and it would continue to sweep across the province over the next 24 hours and weather would remain hot and dry.
The small town of Dadu, located in the north-western part of Sindh, became the hottest place in the province when the mercury there touched the mark of 45 degrees Celsius on Friday, he added.
He said the entire province was in the grip of the heat wave. The temperature in Mithi and Chorr, located in the middle of a desert and Badin located in lower Sindh was 44 degrees Celsius on Friday.
The temperature in Thatta, Nawabshah and Larkana was 43 degrees Celsius. In Hyderabad the temperature was 42 degrees Celsius, whereas 41 degrees Celsius was recorded in Jacobabad and Sukkur.
