Election tribunal orders re-election in NA-125, PP-155

LAHORE: An election tribunal on Monday ordered re-election in Lahore's NA-125 and PP-155 constituencies after irregularities on the seats were proven during the 2013 general elections.
The one-page statement released by tribunal said that the ballot bags had been opened with a sharp object and the records had been tampered with.
It added that in the reports submitted by the tribunal’s appointed local commission and Nadra after inspecting the record of the constituency, it was found that on an average each person had cast six votes each.
PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique held a press conference soon after the election tribunal ordered re-election in the NA-125 constituency. He said that the decision to order re-election was against the presiding and residing officers of the constituency and that runner-up candidate Hamid Khan had failed to prove rigging.
He further claimed that only seven polling stations in the said constituency had irregularities.
Hamid Khan's lawyer had also contended that Rafique paid one of the residing officers Rs20 million to rig the elections, to which the PML-N leader responded: "I don't want to start a blame-game but Imran Khan says a lot of lies. So, if Hamid Khan lies once, I shouldn't mind".

Rafique and Mian Naseer Ahmad, both of whom belonged to the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N), had won the 2013 general elections from Lahore's NA-125 and PP-155 constituencies respectively.
Rafique had secured 123,416 votes whereas his contender Hamid Khan had obtained 84,495 votes from NA-125 constituency.
Meanwhile, Mian Naseer Ahmad had won the PP-155 election with 63,709 votes.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's (PTI) Hamid Khan had challenged Rafique's victory, alleging that the PML-N candidate had rigged the elections, and a large number of bogus votes were cast in his favour.

He had requested the tribunal to declare the election null and void and announce re-election in the constituency.
The tribunal’s ruling comes months after PTI’s sit-ins in Islamabad over alleged mass scale rigging in the 2013 elections.
NA-125 was among the four controversial constituencies — the other three being NA-110 (Sialkot), NA-122 (Lahore) and NA-154 (Lodhran) — where PTI had demanded for voters’ thumbprint-verification in the hope of finding a solution that might be acceptable to all concerned.

Anybody here want to bet that this minister will be made to win the election again, I cannot understand in which world IK is living, expectations regarding anything coming out free and fair from this system currently prevailing is sheer foolishness. IK I am very happy that I never doubted you for even a split second. IK love you!! Saad Rafiq should not be allowed to contest future elections and should be penalized according to the law. ECP says that all rigging petitions would be judged in a matter of months but here it took ECP more than two years. What about the decisions Said Rafiq made as Railways Minister when he came into power through rigging. What about the common man who files the rigging petition but neither has enough finance or determination like PTI to pursue the rigging case for two long years. ECP needs to answer these questions but I would still commend the tribunal head to go with the truth.

People should not forget the recently concluded cantonment board elections. The results of a re-election are not going to be any different. This is not to suggest that there were no wrong doings in 2013 elections. This is to highlight that the wrong doings were also proportional. NA-246 is an example.

Kindly recover all the money of all the candidates spent on the elections from Khuwaja on the elections and all the benefits he has taken - recover all the cost of his expenses as a Member of the Assembly so that in future such corrupt people should not do any rigging. Otherwise Pakistani will lose more money on re-election and Khhuwaja will invest more money on rigging and get back his seat and then recover his invested money on the rigging.

All those who connived and / or were involved in criminal act of negligence and allowed people to cast bogus votes in thousands should /must also be taken to task and handed out severe punishment. Despite tall claims of large-scale rigging in Karachi by PTI recent by-elections in NA246 with heavy presence of rangers proved that overall result did not change. In a similar fashion even if all booths are installed with CCTV cameras and Army Offrs themselves conduct/supervise the by-elections in NA125, in most transparent manner possible I can bet it would be won by PML-N! What PTI trolls fail to understand is that the irregularities committed in election 2013 were not skewed in statistically significant manner in favor of PML-N.

I am sure rigging also took place heavily in Karachi but the Karachi PTI team probably out of fear didn't pursue the cases. Yes MQM won fairly in NA246 recently. But that is only because it is their base. If elections in Karachi's all other constituencies are conducted in the same secure environment as it was recently in NA 246 then the result would be different in almost 70 percent of Karachi's constituencies. Remember that ECP accepted on the very day that they couldn't conduct fair elections in Karachi.

But with re-elections in NA125 we would see PTI campaigning fully with IK and Hamid Khan taking the lead. Secondly if PMLN or certain elements of it can rig elections with the so called neutral returning officers then they could have done it in cantonment elections too with all the machinery under their control. However, such rigging would not be allowed in future.

This outcome also seems to be some sort of set up, because you see if one can play with election of the whole country and when everything and everybody is in their pocket couldn't they control this decision. In my younger days there was a popular comedy show called 50/50, in one of the shows, there was a guy with a tank mounted on his car goes through a check post. It is not unlikely that same tainted candidates will be allowed to contest and they win again. But this time their win will be the outcome of 'mind closing' pathetic education system that produces mindliess follower, and not because of the rigging. Big difference!

This is a huge huge victory for Imran Khan. In this country people steal, kill, loot and and not just little but from millions of $$$ to setting 200 workers on fire in factory but there has NEVER been accountability and here only votes wore stolen (normal thing) and Imran Khan stood up for it and made them COUNT and CORRECTIVE measures are now taken, this is the FIRST accountability of the country. As Dr Awab Alvi pointed out on his tweet. it took 1 yr 11 months and 23 days for judiciary and ECP of Pakistan to act on it
Imran and PTI hard work finally paying off. But it is so sad that one has to do that much scarifies to ask Court and ECP to look into election rigging where every party including PMLN had said there was rigging in election.
Judiciary must punish severely those who were involved in rigging other wise it will happen again

If the average voter casted 6 votes then to whom the votes were casted and bye the way have they look for duplication of CNIC numbers. One main thing NA-125 and PP-155 these constituencies are in Lahore not in any village so total number of votes casted should be more than 600000, if the judgement is correct - therefore CONCLUSION - stupid decision and hence KANGRO COURT. I wish if ET prints my comments and I'm doubtful

I appreciate the efforts of tribunal for bringing the facts in front of the nation and handling the case with utter fairness. This decision might have come very late but I would say that still there are people in Pakistan, who can stand against Tyranny and do Justice. Morally and ethically Khawaja Sahib should not comment on it and stop buffooning the people anymore.

My hope is that this whole exercise does not turn out to be complete general elections. The main reason is that the ongoing military operations should reach there logical end and the recent positive trend in economy should continue. Amazing skills or spinelessness? Ballot bags have been open by sharp objects, on average one person casted six votes, and the champion of democracies claiming rigging is not proved. Oh it was in naivety that returning officers thought that they may have left their house keys by mistake in the bags, that's why they cut through the bags. After all it was against humanity and ethics that a person after performing his duty honestly and honorably couldn't go back to his home for a well deserve sleep.

What a justice system we have - Railway Minister enjoying his minister ship for almost two years before being de-seated by the Election Tribunal. It should be mandatory for the Election Tribunals to conclude in 120 days as specified in the law, with loop holes available to delay the verdict - mostly as much as by full term of the person in question.
In such cases stay orders should NOT be allowed, otherwise justice will always be delayed. But our parliamentarians having morals as they have, shall never allow this to happen.

PTI wants to achieve at minimum an environment which would provide for a fairer electoral process come next election, they are seeking convictions for past offenders believing only by bringing them to justice they have a fair shot at next ballot.
PML-N says yes last election was riddled with irregularities but that has been a characteristics of our electoral process and that they also have been victim of it as well. Now if all parties agree for reforms PML-N says they are for it but not on their expense and not on their watch.
What we as a nation gain out of this war of compromises between PML_N and PTI is hopefully far more then what PML-N is ready to give and far less then what PTI set out to achieve.

I now see to have some hope in the election commission especially the way election commission ensured fair and free election (nearly impossible at the outset) in Karachi for NA246? where MQM won. The tribunal didn't give verdict against rigging , it give it against discrepancies of polling staff. those who are still believe that the mandate was rigged in NA125. Again they will have a set back and this time it will be more painful. few days back cantonment election give the verdict in favor of pml N. khawaja Saad is very famous in this constituency. its up to PML N leadership they went to supreme court or in election but in both cases PML N has a strong case.

No matter how much he corrects the wrongs of this system or doesn't, only makes him more stronger a leader. As he himself says, intention and efforts count, not the end result.
