KOHAT: The students of Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) on Wednesday stopped the staff from entering the campus, pressing the administration to start summer semester and provide pick and drop transport facility to them.
The students, who have been boycotting their classes for the last three days, also uprooted the main gate and set up a protest camp there.
However, they postponed their strike till Thursday on the request of chief minister’s adviser MPA Amjid Afridi, who held talks with the acting vice-chancellor and asked him to accept the demand of starting the summer semester.
After coming out of the office of the VC, Mr Afridi told the students that the acting VC had said that there was no summer semester in any of the universities and if they had any such proof they should bring it to him tomorrow (Thursday). Sources said that the adviser also discussed the transport issue during the meeting.
President of All Students’ Federation of Kohat district, Nadeem Saifullah, told Dawn on phone that they had gathered the proofs that summer semester was being conducted in all the universities and the facility was being availed by the students of cadet college, Kohat, medical university and other private institutions.
