LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) will help the Quetta municipality develop its waste management system, LWMC Managing Director Khalid Majeed told Dawn on Thursday.

The prospects of the working emerged when Quette Mayor Kaleemullah Khan met the LWMC management, including chairman Khwaja Ahmed Hassan, in Lahore on Thursday and sought help to improve the solid waste management system of Quetta.

“They (Quetta delegates) have requested us to first review Quetta’s existing SWM and give some viable recommendations to change operational and institutional mechanism,” Mr Majeed said.

He said the LWMC would send its officials to Quetta on a week-long visit to review their practices and recommend changes. He said Mr Hassan announced building operational and institutional capacity of the Quetta’s SWM.

“The LWMC will provide consultancy to Quetta free of cost,” he quoted the chairman as having said.

CDGL: The City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) carried out the dengue surveillance in two million places from January to April, according to a spokesman.

Also, 562 seminars and meetings on dengue were organised by the CDGL. Officials inspected graveyards 2,100 times and visited 514 junkyards and 689 tyre shops. Officials also got 102 FIRs registered and 18 people arrested for violating dengue regulations.

Also, price control magistrates on Thursday got 45 shopkeepers arrested and imposed a Rs95,400 fine on several others for overcharging and hoarding.

AUCTION: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) auctioned on Thursday 11 commercial plots for Rs75.4 million.

The auction of commercial and residential plots of Johar Town, Jubilee Town, LDA Avenue One, Mohalanwal, Sabazazar, and Gujjar Pura schemes was held at LDA Community Centre, New Muslim Town, according to a spokesman,

LTC: The city traffic officer met Lahore Transport Company (LTC) senior officials on Thursday and sought certain measures for smooth flow of traffic on various routes of public transport.

He said it was imperative to ensure availability of some legal alternate to gradually phase out illegal public transport.

The LTC chief executive officer briefed the CTO about endeavors of operations and enforcement department for collection of data in respect of illegal transport in the city.

CRICKET: The divisional administration on Thursday sought permission for promoting domestic and regional cricket and said it would fully cooperate to hold matches at the school level from June 1 to 15.

In a meeting, the Lahore commissioner said two cricket grounds had been marked for matches. He urged office bearers of the Lahore Region Cricket Association to keep in touch with him.
