SWABI, Oct 1: The district Zakat Department has decided to give Rs2.6 million to deserving students of government schools in the current financial year.

Official sources in the Zakat department told Dawn  here on Tuesday said that in this connection a letter was sent to primary, higher secondary, high and middle schools of the district.

They said principals, headmasters and senior teachers of  the schools were advised that they should only recommend  students who genuinely need the Zakat fund.

They added that instead of the district Zakat Department heads of institutions and the local chairman of each locality were authorized to select deserving students and provide them with the sanctioned fund.

Students are required to submit their application forms for the Zakat fund to heads of their respective institutions till Oct 31 who would be given another month to go through with the scrutiny process.
