KARACHI: After drawing their opening match two days ago, Karachi made a decent start to dominate Hyderabad in their PCB-PEPSI Cricket Stars Under-16 Tournament fixture at the National Stadium here on Sunday.
Opting to bat first in the Pool ‘C’ clash, Hyderabad were restricted to 219-6 in the first innings quota of 70 overs. Opener Faisal Hussain (50 off 118 balls, five fours) and Mohammad Suleman (72 off 113, 8 fours and one six) put on 119 for the second wicket.
Karachi recovered from the loss Jahanzeb Sultan for a duck to reach 133-1. Haider Ali was batting with 89 (100 balls, 15 boundaries) in the unbroken second-wicket stand of 129 with Mohammad Amin (41 off 99, four fours).
Skipper Morail Rasool hit 137 (187 balls, 13 fours and two sixes) as Larkana posted 253-5 after opting to bat first against Dera Jamali Murad at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad. The visitors closed day one of the two-day tie at 35-2.
Shafay Malik scored 72 (90 balls, 14 fours) to help Lahore collect 291 in 65.3 overs after choosing to bat first against Quetta in their Pool ‘A’ encounter at the Shah Faisal Cricket Ground in Lahore.
Leg-spinner Ahmer Jalil then snared three wickets as Quetta struggled to 90-6 in their reply.
Fata reached 126-2 after vindicating their decision to bowl first by dismissing Sialkot for 166 at the Cricket Centre Ground in Lahore.
In the Pool ‘B’ local derby at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, who won the toss, collected 113-2 after Islamabad had been bowled out for 185. Left-arm spin duo of Farhan Shafiq and Mohsin Nisar claimed four wickets apiece.
Peshawar were reeling at 89-6 after restricting Abbottabad to 177 all out at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. Azad Jammu Kashmir put up a dismal batting exhibition after Multan inserted them into bat in the Pool ‘D’ game at the Bhutto Cricket Stadium in the federal capital. In 70 overs, they plodded to just 129-9. Left-arm spinner Mohammad Huzaifa returned extraordinary figures of 5-32 in 25 overs.
By stumps, Multan had progressed to 141-4 in 38 overs.
Mohammad Junaid, another slow left-armer, took 5-56 as Faisalabad mustered 170 in 56.5 overs against Bahawalpur at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi. Bahawalpur also found the going tough as they stumbled to 107-5 in 34 overs.
