LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has decided to support the PML-Q candidate, Nasir Cheema, in the re-poll in PP-97 Gujranwala.

The election commission had found rigging and irregularities at 34 polling stations of the constituency and ordered re-polling in it with the same candidates.

PTI Punjab president Ejaz Chaudhry chaired a meeting of the party’s Gujranwala district’s office-bearers at provincial secretariat on Sunday and asked them to actively work in the re-poll process.

He appreciated the party workers for their performance in the Gujranwala Cantonment Board polls and conveyed Imran Khan’s wishes to the winning councilors.

He said the re-poll in PP-97 had strengthened PTI’s view on organised rigging in the May 2013 elections.

“The PML-N was supported to win through organised rigging,” he asserted and added the judicial commission would soon clarify the general election picture.

PTI’s supported candidate Nasir Cheema said that he was obliged that the PTI leadership had honoured him with its trust.

PTI Gujranwala district president Rana Naeemur Rehman said the party had won five out of 10 seats in the cantonment elections.

CONDOLENCE: PTI Punjab president Ejaz Chaudhry, secretary general Yasmin Rashid and others have expressed grief over the incident in which six children lost their lives in a fire at Shadbagh.

They said the incident had exposed the inability and criminal negligence of the district administration, adding that six precious lives could have been saved had the fire brigade reached well in time.

They said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had failed to upgrade the rescue services and was busy executing flashy projects to gain a political mileage. They demanded action against the delinquent officials.
