SUKKUR, Oct 3: Minister of State for Water and Power Khalid Ahmed Khan Lund has said that construction of new water reservoirs is necessary to overcome the shortage of water and minimize flood damages, and for the prosperity of the country.
Talking to journalists at Khalid Abad on Thursday, he said that consensus of the provinces, including Sindh, would be sought before starting the construction of Kalabagh dam and Thal canal.
He said that as far as the opposition or the movement of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy after Eid was concerned, the government had nothing to fear about as the people did not want to take part in any absurd issues.
He said the Legal Framework Order was part of the constitution and elections were held under it, adding that if anyone had any objections to it now, they should resign from the parliament first.
He said the government of Prime Minister Jamali was in no danger, moreover, neither would early elections be held nor the assemblies dissolved. Elements dreaming of early elections would have to wait for four more years.
The minister said the Pakistan People’s Party Patriots had played a vital role in the restoration of democracy and would continue to support the government.
He further said the government was serving the people without discrimination and equal funds were allocated to the MNAs which proved the government’s sincerity.
He said that President General Pervez Musharraf was paying due importance to the water issue and equitable water share was being distributed to the provinces, moreover, a telemeter system, costing billions of rupees, had been installed.
