QUETTA: Salman Mamnoon, a son of President Mamnoon Hussain, escaped a bomb attack on his convoy in Hub on Sunday evening. Three people were killed in the blast and 15 injured.
“The convoy of Mr Salman was the target of the attack which occurred in the main bazaar of the town,” police official Zia Mandokhel said.
Sources said that five policemen escorting Mr Salman were injured and their vehicle was damaged. Two other policemen also suffered injuries.
They said that Mr Salman accompanied by police guards was returning to Karachi from his farmhouse in Pirkas area when explosives planted on a motorcycle parked outside a restaurant went off. Police believe that the explosive device was detonated by remote control.
After the incident, Mr Salman continued his journey to Karachi.
The explosion damaged the restaurant, adjacent shops and several vehicles and motorcycles parked there.
“Three people, a 12-year-old boy among them, died on the spot,” police official Mandokhel said.
Police and Frontier Constabulary personnel cordoned off the area and took the bodies and the injured to the Jam Ghulam Qadir Hospital. Six of the seriously injured were taken to Karachi.
Two of the deceased were Mohammad Ejaz and Abdul Salam but the identity of the boy could not be ascertained.
The injured were identified as Mohammad Usman, Rasool Bakhsh, Peeral, Abdul Haq, Rasheed, Washo, Mohammad Younus, Saddam Hussain, Mohammad Mustafa, Mohammad Yasin, Mohsin, Aurangzeb, Raza and Faraz.
