RAWALPINDI, Oct 4: Employees posted at the union councils have called for merging their cadre with the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) staff.

Talking to this reporter, they expressed concerns over the status of their employment and demanded streamlining of the procedure for postings and transfers at the unions councils level.

“At the time of posting of staff at the union councils, no definite criterion was followed and all appointments were made on random,” an employee posted as secretary at a union council said.

Those posted at the UCs now fear that they might lose their seniority to their juniors posted at the TMA. This would be a great injustice to those serving at the UCs, they said.

“The merger of our cadre with the TMA employees would give us a level playing field besides giving us a chance to get posted in the TMA,” one of them said.

Meanwhile, some of the union council Nazims have complained that the staff posted at the UCs were incompetent and lacked knowledge about running day-to-day affairs of the UCs.

The Nazims said the UC offices opened late because the staff were habitual late-comers.
