GUJRANWALA: Eight people, half of them nominated, were booked on Monday for killing PML-N MPA Rana Shamshad Ahmed Khan, his son Rana Shahbaz and his friend Mehmood Shakir on Sunday.

The Kamoki Saddar police registered an FIR against PPP’s Rafiq Virk, his two brothers Shahbaz Virk, Sarfraz Virk and their father Faqir Muhammad and their four accomplices under sections 302, 324 and 427 of the PPC on the complaint of Liaquat Ali, the cousin the deceased MPA.

Reports said that deceased MPA Rana Shamshad had a dispute with his rival Rafiq Virk over an agricultural land.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that culprits behind the murder had been traced and would be arrested soon.

He said this while talking to reporters after offering the funeral prayers of Rana Shamshad and his son at Abdul Wakeel Khan Stadium in Kamoki.

Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal Ahmad Khan, PTI leader Mehmood Rashid, former ministers Hasnain Dreshaq, Zaheeruddin Baber and other parliamentarians offered the funeral prayers.

Meanwhile, all markets and bazaars remained shut in Kamoki while the private bus service on all routes was also suspended in the district.

ARRESTED: The FIA claimed on Monday to have arrested an absconder after five years and seized passports and documents from his possession.

FIA deputy director Sikander Hayat Malik said that accused Abid Butt was wanted to the agency in 10 cases of human smuggling.

He said a team led by Inspector Hassan Farooq raided the hideout of the accused in Gujrat and arrested him without meeting any resistance.
