MULTAN: The Multan police on Thursday arrested the former personal secretary of Mureed Hussain Qureshi after the Lahore High Court rejected his bail in a case lodged by Mr Qureshi.

Mr Qureshi, son of former governor Makhdoom Sajjad Hussain Qureshi and brother of Shah Mehmood Qureshi, got registered an FIR against his personal secretary Ashir Suleman under section 381 of the PPC on March 18 with the Daulat Gate police.

He alleged that Ashir Suleman had in February stolen the will of his father Makhdoom Sajjad Hussain Qureshi along with other necessary documents from a briefcase lying in his room.

He said besides him and his personal secretary no other person was aware of the briefcase code.

Mr Qureshi said he had addressed a press conference in November 2014 on the eve of Urs of Bahauddin Zakariya in which he had stated that Shah Mehmood Qureshi was not the caretaker of the shrine and he (junior Qureshi) had sufficient evidence to proof his claim in courts if it required.

Bail rejected in missing documents case

He said the documents were found missing from his briefcase when he needed the will of his father.

He said his personal secretary confessed before two witnesses to having stolen documents and the will and promised to return these within a couple of days.

Mr Qureshi said the suspect neither returned the documents nor resumed his duty and instead threatened him and his family of dire consequences.

The suspect through his counsel Rana Muhammad Arif Kamal Noon and Rana Muhammad Iqbal Noon filed a petition in the LHC stating that the complainant had developed a conflict with his elder brother (Shah Mehmood Qureshi) on the issue of the caretaker office.

He stated his bail before arrest plea was dismissed by a sessions court on April 25.

He claimed the FIR lodged against him was mala fide only to achieve the ulterior motive and unlawful gains to strengthen political and family disputes between two brothers.

Advocate Habibullah Shakir, the counsel for Mureed Hussain Qureshi, said that Justice Tariq Abbasi had dismissed the ad-interim bail petition of the accused.
