94-year-old man finishes college after starting 75 years ago

A 94-YEAR-OLD man became the oldest graduate in the West Virginia University history when he received his diploma recently.

The school said in a press release that Anthony Brutto, who studied on and off for 75 years, was awarded his Regents Bachelor of Arts degree during commencement. Brutto first entered the university in 1939 when the tuition fee was $50. He was drafted in 1942, serving in the Army Air Corps until the end of WW II.

Brutto re-enrolled at the school in 1946, but could not finish because he had to care for his sick wife. A machinist by trade, Brutto says graduating from college was always important to him. He jokingly says he’ll take a break before pursuing a master’s degree.

Lobsters as big as man?

A HUGE lobster, as big as a man took the place of whales 480 million years ago, archaeologists have discovered in Morocco. This filter-feeding ‘lobster’ was a two-metre (6.5ft) prehistoric creature and lived at a time when life was just starting to get into its stride.

It belonged to the family of anomalocaridids that were the early ancestors of modern crustaceans, insects and spiders.

But while most of its relatives were shark-like apex predators with circular mouths ringed by sharp teeth, the new species, named Aegirocassis benmoulae, was a gentle giant.

Like modern-day whales, it filtered seawater to trap tiny particles of food, using spine-covered ‘limbs’ on its head. It is thought to be the oldest giant filter-feeder ever discovered.
