KARACHI: Pakistan’s Asim Khan, representing Champion Hunt Initiative Programme for Squash (CHIPS), clinched the under-19 title as his three fellow countrymen went down to opponents in the finals of the Malaysian Junior Open Squash Championship which concluded at Penang on Saturday.
Asim was on song as he defeated compatriot Abbas Shaukat straight 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 in the final to do his country and Chips proud.
Of the Chips quartet who sailed into the finals on Friday in different categories, three suffered defeats to their respective opponents.
Huzaifa Ibrahim and Kashif Asif went down to Malaysians in contrasting styles while Oan Abbas lost to Egyptian.
Huzaifa suffered 9-11, 5-11, 4-11 defeat at the hands of Joachim Chuah in under-11 final while Kashif fought courageously before going down to Ong Sai Hung in fully stretched battle 11-8, 6-11, 9-11, 12-10, 6-11 in the U-17 category..
Oan Abbas was the third player who made exit losing to Egyptian Mostafa Assal 2-11, 7-11, 6-11 in under-15..
Final results:
Under-11: Huzaifa Ibrahim (Pakistan) lost to Joachim Chuah (Malaysia) 9-11, 5-11, 4-11.
Under-15: Oan Abbas (Pakistan) lost to Mostafa Assal (Egypt) 2-11, 7-11, 6-11.
Under-17: Kashif Asif (Pakistan) lost to Ong Sai Hung (Malaysia) 11-8, 6-11, 9-11, 12-10, 6-11.
Under-19: Asim Khan (Pakistan) bt Abbas Shaukat (Pakistan) 11-7, 11-8, 11-8.
