ISLAMABAD: The budget for the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has been increased by around 10 per cent to Rs91 million for the next fiscal year 2015-16, however the operating expenditure of the council has been decreased.

This will be the first budgetary year for the CII under the Ministry of Law and Justice, which was previously under the religious affairs ministry.

The budget of the CII for the outgoing fiscal year 2014-15 was Rs84.41 million, which has been increased mainly due to rise in salaries of officers in the CII.

With an increase of almost 29 per cent, the salaries of officers have been raised to Rs16.89 million. Meanwhile, salaries and allowances of other staff members have dropped by around 17 per cent to Rs8.96 million in 2015-16.

Similarly, allowances enjoyed by the members and chairman CII have been raised to Rs37.46 million in the next fiscal from Rs33.88 million in the outgoing fiscal year.

In contrast with the increase in salaries and allowances of top managers of the council, the operating expenditure of the CII has been reduced nominally in the next fiscal year. The operating expenditure of CII for 2015-16 is proposed at Rs23.32 million down by Rs72,000.
