MARDAN: Jamaat-i-Islami, the coalition-partner of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in the provincial government, has joined the tripartite alliance of Awami National Party, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F and Pakistan People’s Party to form local government in Mardan district and its three tehsils.

The decision was announced during a press conference by the leaders of the four parties here the other day.

JI district emir Dr Ataur Rahman, ANP district president Himayatullah Mayar Advocate, JUI-F district general secretary Maulana Amanat Shah Haqani and PPP leader Murad Khan announced to form the four-party ‘grand alliance’ for making their joint governments in the district and its three tehsils -- Mardan, Takhtbai and Katlang.

They said they had formed the alliance to serve people of the district and bring rapid development and prosperity to the area.

They pointed out that in the district council, ANP had 21 seats, JUI-F six, PPP and JI three seats each. The parties claimed that they had also support of a PM-N member and two independents. They said the total strength of the grand alliance stood at 36 seats in the district council out of 71 seats. They said results of four union councils -- Toru, Mahu Dhery, Mayar and Maday Baba -- were awaited.

Similarly, they said in Mardan tehsil out of total 46 seats, ANP had 10 seats, JUI-F seven, PPP and JI three each while results in two union council were pending. In Takhtbai tehsil, out of total 17 seats, ANP had two seats, JUI-F four, PPP and JI three each. In Katlang tehsil, ANP had four seats, JUI-F four and JI two seats, respectively.

They claimed that majority of independents had promised to join the four-party grand alliance in the coming few days.

THREE KILLED: Three people were killed and as many were injured in two road accidents and a firing incident here on Sunday.

The first road accident happened on Surukh Pul Takar road in Garoshah area when two persons riding a motorcycle collided with a three-wheeler causing them serious wounds.

However, both the victims identified as Aftab (25) and Yousaf (27) succumbed to their injuries on their way to Tehsil Takhtbai Hospital.

In the second accident, two bikes clashed with each other on the Garikapoora road leaving one person dead and his two other companions injured.

The slain and inured persons were identified as Zia (22), Nadeem (18) and Zubair (25).

The rescue-1122 personnel rushed to the scene soon after getting information about the mishap and took the body and the two injured to district headquarter hospital, Mardan.

Similarly, a person identified as Mir Zaman received bullet injuries when his rival opened fire on him after exchanging hot words over a petty issue in Tooth Killy area on Sunday.

Chora police registered FIR and began further investigations.
