KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif said on Saturday that the battle against terrorism cannot be won by the armed forces alone and he was encouraged to see the whole nation pursuing the national effort with a great sense of purpose.
Army Chief General Raheel Sharif made the statements while addressing the passing-out parade ceremony at the Pakistan Naval Academy, PNS Rahbar in Karachi's Manora island as the chief guest, according to a series of tweets posted by Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa.

General Raheel Sharif said that the entire world endorses Pakistan's security concerns and added that ceasefire violations, bloodshed in Balochistan, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and Karachi manifest the enemy's hostile intent.

"Entire nation expresses the resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism. Operation Zarb-i-Azb is delivering decisive results and terrorists resorting to desperate actions," he further said.

The army chief added that Pakistan has been willing to cooperate with other nations for peace but not at the cost of national interest, sovereign rights and national pride.

He said, "We are ready to pay any price to protect our nationhood and safeguard Pakistan's interests, be it Kashmir, development of new ports or exploitation of natural resources."

General Raheel Sharif also said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with the Gwadar Port as its catalyst, will be built and developed as one of the most strategic deep sea ports in the region at any cost.

"CPEC holds enormous potential for transforming the lives of people in the region," said the army chief adding that the armed forces are acutely aware of enemy campaigns and will defeat designs against it.

Such a discouraging statement for the first time from you sir.If army can't do it then who will? You have been selected to do this job. Common man is the worst affected of all. Apart from terrorists, everyday we have to fight hard battle to keep food on the table. How much more do you want us to do?

Terrorism is born from the same common citizen, breeds there, gets financed through various apparently innocent charities and from there the vested interests hire and train them for their horrible nefarious activities. Therefore, civilian inputs for armed forces are most important for terror eradication from its roots.

The establishment in Pakistan should start respecting the vote and political parties. They should also refrain from creating creating pockets groups who destabilise the region.

An encouraging admission.Armed forces of any country if follows - It should be governed by a legitimate political authority,the masters of the country are people, and it will only serve the people then the armed forces are regarded as civil society partners.Despite many ups and down the UK has managed the question of Northern Ireland secessionists politically. The lesson is same for Pakistan.

General Sharif apparently seems determined to eradicate terrorism from the country and he has spearheaded the operations in FATA and Karachi.But unfortunately statements and arrests in Karachi didn't lead to prosecutions in a court of law while extremist religious elements are still roaming free.

No sir, you don't go in search of terrorists after work. You just do your part. Keep your eyes and ears open and report anything suspicious. You vote carefully and donate carefully lest it goes in the pockets of terror outfits. You raise your children with tolerance and respect for difference of opinion. You hold your politicians accountable, peacefully, through your vote. You cooperate with security agencies for they are fighting a difficult war. You report your local Imam, your dearest friend and your own child to security agencies if you have reasonable doubt they are involved with terrorist outfits. That is all. If you find it too difficult it is because it is. But then freedom and sovereignty never comes free. Price has to be paid for it.

@surya politicized statements appears to be an integral part of the men in uniform as far as operations in Karachi is concerned. Core commander Karachi earlier and now DG rangers has the figures about the money being made illegally by political and criminal mafias,how he got the figure and is it real or just hearsay. If the proof is there then get on with the legal action against all including his own.

Generals, ministers, top officials and the elite don't pay the price. The price is paid by common people, who take the power cuts, face water shortages, suffer suicide explosions and live with low quality etc. The price is paid by low rank cadre of Police and soldiers, who fight the (almost invisible) terror forces with their lives on stake.
