KARACHI:The convoy of SSP Rao Anwar came under attack by assailants outside his home in Malir Cantt on Saturday.
All policemen, travelling in the convoy, remained unhurt whereas all attackers were killed in retaliatory fire.
SSP Rao Anwar was heading out of his house, situated in Malir Cantt area of Karachi in a convoy, when he observed four men in a car and on a motorcycle conducting reconnaissance in the area.
According to the police officer, the men, who looked suspicious, opened fire when they were asked to stop.
Police responded with retaliatory firing as a result of which two men, who were travelling by car, died on the spot.
The other two motorcycle-riding men also tried to flee from the scene but policemen chased them and killed them in a subsequent encounter.
Anwar said the CNICs of the assailants have been recovered. The four suspects were identified as Qari Alamgir, Haider Ali, Iqbal and Mahir Badshah, according to Malir Cantonment SHO, Irshad Gabol.
The officer claimed that they belonged to outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan(TTP).
SSP Rao Anwar was attacked earlier in May during which assailants hurled grenades and opened fire on his convoy while the police officer was returning home from the residence of slain DSP Fateh Muhammad Sangi.
Earlier in 2012 a suicide bomber had also attacked him when the police officer was on his way to court.

Police can only be targeted by an agency above police force. I think this is the time to bring internal intelligence gathering operations under civil police force. All other intelligence agencies (IB, ISI, MI) should be banned from at least "acting" and should be restricted to intelligence co-ordination and monitoring only. It is the time to strengthen our systems.

We need to revist Zarb-i-Azb. This battle is not making sense. What are the success milestones that we measure success against? Everyday I hear of intelligence failures that threaten our very senior battle officers. It is unacceptable and very scary.

Please give credit where credit is due. These are our brave countrymen who put their lives at risk every single day and must be supported as such. Also note that the story read CNICs have been "recovered". With all our law enforcement agencies working at full speed, it is quite a possibility, just like the killers of recent 45 innocent people were caught within weeks. It does NOT say that they were carrying their CNICs. Again, no one can travel without carrying their CNICs so they were probably carrying those in case they were stopped in a routine check. From my end, I have utmost respect for our heroes. Cynics be doomed.

second attached on SSP Rio Anwer in this year and surprisingly in both attached only assailant killed by police. it seems unreal. is there any any sign of bullet on SSP's vehicle as he said assailant opened fire on the police convey.matter must be probe by an honest officer.

SSP Rao Anwar is a very smart officer and his keen observation saved the lives of his fellow officers and Guards. Its a good practice to check the neighborhood before leaving for work or going home. Police officers should also change their route to work. These small changes can make a difference between life and death. The outcome of this attack on Police convoy was a very happy one. All four attackers were killed and none of the police officer was injured or killed. The terrorist wanted by the police for various crimes should be documented and their pictures should be released to the public so that public can tip the police on their sighting/whereabouts. Its better to arrest them when they are most vulnerable. The police has to take proactive role rather than wait for them to attack the police.

I've heard a 20 year boy was kidnapped a month before and later he was shown as an attacker killed in the last attack before this one ...
I've also heard normal people like these are kept in farmhouses and are killed in encounters for certain purposes.
I hope it's wrong but surely need to be investigated as seems to be really curious situation with repeatation of similar forms of attack and same results.
