SIALKOT: Around 20 basic health units (BHUs) out of the total 28 in Pasrur tehsil have no medical officers for long due to which getting treatment has become an ordeal for people from rural areas.

According to senior officials of the Pasrur health department, there were medical officers/doctors only in eight BHUs, while dispenser-level junior employees were running the remaining 20 units.

Meanwhile, the construction of an administration block, trauma centre, operation theatre, outpatient department and several wards was underway briskly at the Pasrur Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Civil Hospital.

Pasrur Deputy District Officer (Health) Dr Hafiz Khalid Mehmood said 24 posts of senior medical officers and specialist doctors, including medical superintendent, had been lying vacant at the Pasrur THQ Hospital for long, due to which patients had been suffering. He said the Punjab government was spending Rs140 million on upgrading the hospital and providing advanced and better health cover to people.

He said daily 700 indoor and outdoor patients visited the hospital.

BAZAARS: The district administration has established eight Sasta Ramazan Bazaars, 31 fair price shops and 37 Ramazan Dastarkhwans in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils.

District Coordination Office (DCO) Dr Asif Tufail announced this while presiding over a high-level meeting here on Tuesday.

He said these Ramazan bazaars had been established to provide maximum financial relief to the public by ensuring provision of good quality daily-use commodities and kitchen items on subsidised rates. He directed officials concerned to ensure quality and check prices of the daily-use commodities in these bazaars as there would be no compromise on them.

Earlier, flanked by local elected representatives, the DCO visited the sites where Sasta Ramazan Bazaars had been established.
