KOHAT: The counterterrorism department on Wednesday arrested two Afghans affiliated with the banned TTP for extortion and involvement in attacks on army and police personnel in Hangu district.
The counterterrorism force raided a house in Doaba after receiving a tip off that two Afghan refugees of Hafiz Daulat group of the banned TTP were hiding there. Both the outlaws identified as Mirajuddin and Sher Rehman were arrested from the house and shifted here, where a case was registered against them in the divisional counterterrorism police station.
Sources said that they would be presented to the court today (Thursday) for obtaining their physical remand.
Meanwhile, the city police on Wednesday arrested the main culprit behind the killing of a cloth merchant. The suspect was also produced in court which remanded him in police custody for three days.
DUTY ROASTER: Deputy Commissioner Kamran Afridi on Wednesday directed the heads of government departments to ensure strict observance of duty roaster in their respective departments during Ramazan.
Mr Kamran asked Pesco to stick to the timings announced by the federal government for carrying out loadshedding and ensure uninterrupted power supply during Sehr, Iftar and Taraweeh timings.
He said if the lower staff was found absent then the head of that department would be held responsible.
Mr Afridi ordered that there should not be any discrimination in loadshedding across Kohat.
He directed the project director of the KDA Township to solve water shortage problem during Ramazan. He said tube-well operators in the town should be made to observe their duty timings strictly. He directed Pesco to ensure power supply to KDA Town for a minimum of 12 hours on daily basis to avoid water shortage.
The deputy commissioner directed that doctors and nurses should remain in the casualty ward of the hospitals during iftar and sehr to deal with any untoward incident.
He also directed the assistant commissioners to pay regular visits to the bazaars to check hoarding, price hike and cleanliness to provide maximum relief to people during the fasting month.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner, while lauding the performance of the Youth Arts Council in providing social entertainment to the people asked for its help in creating awareness about health problems and artificial price hike during the fasting month.
He was talking to the members of the council who called on him at his office on Wednesday.
The youth artists delegation was led by the council chairman Mohammad Zaman. The deputy commissioner assured them all possible help on behalf of the local administration for promotion of healthy activities in Kohat district.
