Land for martyrs

Published June 22, 2015

Apropos the news (June 20) regarding granting agricultural land to shaheed officers and jawans decorated with Sitara-i Jurat or higher gallantry award in recognition of their bravery was a good tradition in Punjab, until it ran out of the land earmarked for this purpose.

It is good that the government of Sindh has accepted partly the outstanding demand of Pakistan Army and has decided to give 9,000 acres of forest land to army for distribution to the martyrs of army, (including those from the PAF and Pak Navy too, unless a separate chunk of land is earmarked for them).

However, I am dismayed that I hear of no such scheme for the policemen who also give their life gallantly in the performance of their duty. Similar schemes should be there for them too
