THE import of gas-powered generators is allowed but running them on gas is banned because of a shortage of the commodity. Similarly petrol generators are imported in the thousands but acquiring fuel from filling stations in jerry cans is prohibited for security reasons.
People can still use gas generators using clandestine means. However, petrol is not supplied to homes in a pipeline. So logically speaking, petrol-operated generators in Pakistan are being run on air.
I wish and pray that the same technology is employed in the national power houses to counter the menace of loadshedding in the country. The technology should also be exported to other countries to earn foreign exchange.
Kudos to our Petroleum Ministry.
