ABBOTTABAD: Girls clinched the top three positions in the matriculation examination results announced by the Abbottabad Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education here on Wednesday.
Mahroosha Shahzad of Iqra Collegiate, Mansehra, garbed the first position by getting 1,034 marks; the second position was shared by Noor-ul-Ain Fatima of Dubai International School, Mansehra, and Aleena Khawaj of Pakistan International School, Bher Kund Mansehra, by securing 1,027 marks each; and Laiba Munib of Pakistan International School, Bher Kund Mansehra, secured third position with 1,025 marks.

Among boys, Syed Tauseef Shah of Dubai International School & College got first position with 1,024 marks, Mohammad Hashim Sabir of Jinnah Jamia Public School and College, Haripur, with 1,017 marks got second position, Ahmed Hafeez of JJPS Haripur with 1,014 marks secured third position.
In humanities group, top three positions went to girls. Laiba Ismail of Garnish Public School, Thakra Mansehra, with 916 marks got first position, Atika Shoaib of GPS Thakra Mansehra with 894 marks secured second spot and Iqra Ziaqat of Government High School Surjal Abbottabad claimed third position with 890 marks.
Among boys in humanities group, all private students got top three positions. Mohammad Zeb got secured 858 marks and became first, Mohammad Amin became second with 848 marks and third position was shared by Mohammad Shoukat and Usman Ali with 821 marks each.
A total of 57,253 students appeared in the exams, of which 41,442 remained successful with pass percentage at 72.38 per cent. Only 1,395 students could get A plus grade while 3,889 got A grade. Top 20 positions were shared by 50 students -- 29 girls and 21 boys – and interestingly, only one student from government schools could make it to the top 20.
