White House lit in rainbow colors after Supreme Court ruling

WASHINGTON: The White House is lit up in rainbow colours in commemoration of the Supreme Court's ruling to legalise same-sex marriage.
Gay and lesbian couples in Washington and across the nation are celebrating Friday's ruling, which will put an end to same-sex marriage bans in the 14 states that still maintain them.

Gay and lesbian couples already could marry in 36 states and the District of Columbia.
The court's 5-4 ruling means the remaining 14 states, in the South and Midwest, will have to stop enforcing their bans on same-sex marriage.

President Barack Obama said earlier Friday that the court ruling has “made our union a little more perfect".
The colours illuminated the north side of the White House as Obama returned Friday evening from Charleston, South Carolina, where he delivered the eulogy of the funeral of Clementa Pinckney, one of nine people murdered in the massacre at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church last week.

If some consenting adults have been granted the right to marry each other in another country, how is impacting you all? You don't like you don't have to do it. No one is asking you all to get married to someone of the same sex. And why are we so obsessed with what others are doing? If they are happy in their homes then let them be. Learn to be happy in your own homes.
And should you all not be more disgusted that in our country we allow little kids to be married to each other without even understanding the meaning of marriage. Or parents marrying their young girls to older men as their 2nd or 3rd or even 4th wife? Why dont you cringe or complain when that happens in your very own country.

People in Pakistan have the audacity to judge when they come from a country where minorities are killed everyday, there's no electricity, people dying of heat waves.

A great step towards equality and respect for all US citizens. It's sad to see that Muslims in the US have not supported this judgement, even though they enjoy the full liberty to practice their religion under the law of the same country.

I am tired of hearing the opponents of same sex marriage say that this marriage is unholy and such. But honestly these people do exist and with or without equal rights and their acceptance they'll continue to exist. They will continue to live together , make love etc you get the drift. No one can stop this. And mind your own business. It is not a religion to be threatened by it.

What I find disgusting about this is the way my Pakistani brothers and sisters are reacting. To be gay is not a choice. It is a natural occurrence. One does not choose to be gay, one is born that way. We cannot argue with genetics as it is the law of nature (read God here). Do some reading. Do some research. Learn about the gene that makes one gay. Wake up to science. Wake up to reality. Accept others the way God made them. Have compassion in your heart. Love all of God's creation!

However , the main concern about this ruling is that the rest of the world see USA as their "Role Model "and will soon copy cat and follow its foot step and in no time would demand such ruling. mankind is chipped away into pieces... decision is hollow and without any remorse and sustenance to normal human beings who are carrying on the generations since time immemorial.
dignity and respect are now a word out of spoken language.
this was the reason, Nature hurled punishment on human beings from time to time in different regions and different races. evil won, modesty lost. now am of the opinion, basis human values must be given importance and due respect. does this means Obama can marry Clinton and Hilary can marry Madonna.... in future we will be calling the so called "Mrs" as first lady... ? its repercussions and nuisance will soon bear their side effects.

@Asma: It seems you guys have all been taught to believe that gays and lesbians choose their lifestyle out of choice, which is completely and utterly wrong. When you are born gay or lesbian, is it fair for the society to keep discriminating against you, the event over which you had no control, the very fact you are born that way? Try to understand that first. In any case how does it affect people like us who are not gay or lesbian? Who is forcing us to become gays or lesbians? As long as the gays and lesbians mind their own business, why should we interfere with that? Why are we trying to make it our business, needlessly? This is about being compassionate to all human beings regardless of how they were born. I hope as fair minded and compassionate person this makes sense to you.

A great victory for equality and human rights. It's about time everyone irrespective of their race, sex, cast, religion or sexual orientation live a free and dignified life.
We must accept living in a true pluralistic society with different life styles, opinions, culture and attitudes. This is how the civilizations evolve and flourish. Societies where one life style is forced upon will eventually vanish.

Great decision which will go a long way in countering the immense bias and hatred that has historically been hurled at gay people, as has happened with minorities in general.
Im Muslim, Pakistani, and fully endorse equality in marriage. Remember the essence of the very law is based on love, and falling in love, one cannot control....

@Asma copy the US? For your information, US is not the first country to legalize same sex marriage. It is the 21st. Including almost all South American and Latin countries. People have the right to choose how the want to live their lives.
