ISLAMABAD: Two new police stations were inaugurated at Karachi Company and Shamas Colony on Wednesday.

Inspector General of Police Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan formally inaugurated the police stations.

The IGP said the purpose of establishing new police stations was to address the citizens’ complaints on immediate basis and ensure effective policing in entire city.

He said that cooperation of citizens was very much crucial for effective policing and hoped that new police stations would ensure high vigilance and success against crime in the area.

Karachi Company police station will cater to sectors G-8 and G-9 while Inspector Khalid Mehmud Awan has been appointed as its SHO. Initially, it has a strength of 42 policemen.

The operation area of Shamas Colony police station is sectors H-12, H-13, I-12, I-13, Shamas Colony, CMT Colony, IJP road and Kashmir Highway.

IGP Islamabad, on this occasion, claimed that crime rate had significantly reduced in capital during the last six months but cooperation of citizens was immensely required to curb crime effectively.

He said that 62 murder cases had been reported during the six months of this year as compared to 82 cases during the corresponding period in last year, thus bringing decline in it o 24.39percent.

Similarly, he said that four cases of kidnapping for ransom had been registered this year as compared to eight such incidents during the corresponding period in last year. Likewise, he said that 17 cases of dacoity, 169 of snatching valuables, 100 burglary incidents, 226 cases of car theft 136 cases of bike theft have been registered during this year as compared to 32 cases of dacoity, 307 of snatching valuables, 148 burglary cases,421 cases of car theft and 223 cases of bike theft in the corresponding period last year.

Security and vigilance committees have been constituted in various areas to involve community in policing affairs, the IGP said and termed the cooperation of citizens crucial to inculcate friendly police ecology.

DIG Sultan Azam Temuri, acting SSP Mohammad Ilyas, SP (Saddar) Habibullah, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, SHOs of various police stations were also present on the occasion.
