QUETTA: The Frontier Corps raided the Chaman passenger train on Friday and arrested 16 people for allegedly smuggling valuable goods to Quetta and other parts of the country.

An FC spokesman said security personnel received information that smugglers were using the Chaman train for smuggling and were bringing various items to Quetta from the Pak-Afghan border.

When FC personnel started searching the bogies some smugglers took the driver hostage and forced him not to stop the train, the FC sources said, adding that security personnel were pelted with stones by the smugglers.

“However, the FC teams succeeded in arresting the 16 smugglers and confiscating the goods they were smuggling to Quetta and other parts of the country,” the spokesman said.

Police have registered cases against the suspects under different sections and they were being interrogated.
