Govt announces five-day Eid holiday

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar on Monday approved five holidays for Eidul Fitr for government organisations, semi-government organisations, banks and educational institutions.
Speaking to the press, the Interior Minister said the holidays would be from July 17 to 21.
Eidul Fitr celebrations mark the culmination of the Holy month of Ramazan during which Muslims all over the world observe 30 days of fasting.
In Pakistan, Eid festivities are marked by last-minute late night shopping with shopping malls and markets bursting at the seams with energetic crowds.
In recent years, however, Eid celebrations have been marred by security concerns. Law enforcement personnel are usually advised to remain on high alert in all major cities to avert any unforeseen incident.

I am missing my city (Karachi).Specially the last ten Fast,during this last ten days we had to do lots of shopping,outing with friends till late night and having sahoor(Parathe with anda and tea) at local Afghani restaurant in the market.Playing cricket with friends every Saturday till late night.I am missing all those memorable moment.

5 days Public Holiday - it is a reflection of feudalistic mind-set.
3 days Eid celebration isn't good enough .... in a country where millions live in poverty and look for work every day simply to survive.

Prolong holidays only make a country less prosperous. Only gov't owned businesses would think of shutting down for so long. Who's hurt because of this shutdown? Of course it's the consumer. Free markets ensure to stay open and serve the customer. It helps them make a profit and it helps the customer get the good. Gov't on the other hand just taxes people or prints money to just loaf off while others are working harder. Those who want more days off can use their vacation days.

In europe Christmas is the biggest festival in a year and govt gives only 2 holidays.
Seems like Pakistanis are working very hard to come in top 3 wealthiest countries of world that's why Govt of Pakistan is gifting 5 holidays for eid.

@Haider Farooq , you do know that there are a lot of people working in big cities who like to spend EID with their families in their hometowns. A day before EID should always be an off day so that people may travel back. We can cut the third day of EID if that's necessary.
